Overview

Sean had recently changed his business name to reflect exactly what he does. Always known as 'The Interior CAD Guy' he shifted away from using his own name to a business name. After initially speaking to Hannah about updating his website, she suggested that he needed to do some brand exploration before updating his online portfolio and that's when I came onboard.

Branding and visual identity

Sean had a good idea of what he wanted, and was able to supply examples of what he liked and a very thoroughly filled out brand questionnaire. This made the initial brand exploration very exciting and I was able to supply Sean with a range of logo and visual identity options for him to choose from. He ended up combining a couple of elements from two of the supplied options for the logo which led to the final design you can see here. The design combines a bold type lockup using an underline paired with a simplified floor plan icon (both design features that are a nod to CAD drawings). A brand pattern was also created that combines different shapes and elements found in CAD drawings.

The brand colour palette comes from the palette that you see in Sean's CAD programme, which is used boldly throughout the visual identity, and supported by a modern grotesque font to really create a stand out look and feel.

Sean was also keen to have a portrait lockup that used his likeness which was executed into a brand stamp he could then use as a seal of approval on his documents.

Icons

To complete my part of the project I created a set of icons for each of his portfolio in a style that complimented the visual identity - bold line work with splashes of colour.

These icons were then animated by Sean's partner (along with some of the other brand assets), which really has bought them to life on the Interior CAD Guy website.

Copy and photography

Lauren worked on Sean's website copy and photography and in Sean’s brand photos, she captured his work, as well as a sense of his personality. Lauren also made sure to include one of his new brand colours - the lovely vibrant blue! They headed to The Projects for some indoor shots, and then out and about around Brighton.

Since buildings and architecture are a key theme of Sean’s work, Lauren included one of Brighton’s most beautiful buildings, the iconic Brighton Dome.

Website design

Once Lauren had finished the website copy and photography, all of the elements along with the branding were handed over to Hannah. She took all of the design elements and applied them to Sean's Squarespace website where she really showcased the branding to it's full potential.

The result

By working with myself, Lauren and Hannah, Sean ended up with a really cohesive and powerful brand, photography and website that showcases his work in a bold and creative way. He now has a brand and website that allows him to confidently market himself to his client base - so much so that he is continually fully booked!
